Learning Enrichment Activities
Amazing Faces
PROJECT A) IN MY SHOES
To show differences and similarities, students traced and drew their shoes. Following, they wrote narrative stories about their shoes.
PROJECT B: READY TO WEAR
Using large paper grocery bags, students cut out holes for the head and arms and turned the bag inside out (if there were advertisements on the outside), and made their vests unique and amazing. This project can also be used to teach many curricular concepts using multiple modalities and creativity. Each vest displayed the unique character of the child creator. THE SAME YET DIFFERENT.
PROJECT C: WEAVING THE DIFFERENCE
Students learned to weave “potholders”, creating unique and amazing patterns, just as amazing faces are all different, so are the patterns and colors each child chose. Students assisted each other, just as in life, people and families help each other.
PROJECT D: DIVERSITY POSTERS
After reading AMAZING FACES, students made posters displaying diversity.
PROJECT E: DIVERSITY POEMS
Students traced double butterflies, wrote poems about diversity on the inside, made tissue paper flowers with construction paper stems and leaves and folded and stapled to a bulletin board to display to the school.
